Do you only make Chesterfield furniture?

Absolutely not! The chesterfield is what we are well known for and ours are the most complex of pieces. From this we can design and make any other style of furniture you have in mind. Quite literally, any style!

Can we have fabric?

Of course. Whilst we specialise in the hand dying of our leathers we also offer pre-dyed leather and an almost unlimited choice of fabric. Just let us know exactly what you have in mind. We also colour match leather to any shade you require.

Do we ship overseas?

We ship worldwide on a weekly basis. just drop us a line and we’ll give you a price and time. It’s a very simple process.

How long does it take for my furniture to arrive?

That depends on what you order. See below for estimated delivery times:-

Can you tell me where the term Chesterfield comes from?

It is commonly acknowledged that seating began with the Egyptians around 3000 B.C. evolving over the years developing in shape, design and use of the seat. As new materials and methods became available the upholsterer started to form new styles making them from a basic frame to an overall padded shape for comfort and style.

The term ‘Chesterfield’ (sofa) originates from pieces made for the ‘Earl of Chesterfield’ who was himself a trend setter of the period, thus the style quickly became fashionable. 

Here at The Original Sofa Co. we offer the customer a huge selection of Chesterfield furniture, whether it be New, Used or original Victorian or Edwardian antique pieces. 

All of our styles have been developed from the Original pieces we have had the pleasure of restoring over the years.

Is there an original Chesterfield company?

Quite simply, no!

Many people are mis-led into thinking that chesterfield furniture is made by a company called Chesterfield.  

Chesterfield is simply a style and quite possibly the most popular single style of upholstered furniture in the world with the chesterfield sofa being the obvious style.

There are companies that have revolutionised the way in which furniture, including the chesterfield sofa, is made and these include howard and sons who patented the 'elastic seat'.

We are actually the last remaining company (the the best of my knowledge) that still craft our pieces in a true 19th century manner, including the full hand tacking of our pieces, use of horse tail only for our filling and hand dying of our leathers.
